Making a Sprite Sheet with GraphicsGale TUTORIAL

STEP 1: Save all of the 9 images you see to your left. You are welcome to use those 9 images for any of these tutorials. This way you don't have to worry about viruses by downloading a zip containing the 9 images. Save them to your desktop for quick access.

STEP 2: Click FILE then NEW, this will bring up the properties for how big you want your new image. Put 96 in both boxes so it reads 96x96.

Step3: Click on the CUSTOM GRID button circled in red, and click on 32x32.

STEP 4: Click on the MAGNIFICATION button and selet 500%, encircled in RED.

STEP 5: Minimize your current image. Encircled in RED.

STEP 6: Click FILE and OPEN. Open any of the 9 images you saved to your desktop. When it opens like shown press CTRL-C to copy the image.

STEP 7: Maximize your minimized image and press CTRL-V to paste your copied image to your new image within the grid.

STEP 8: Repeat steps 6 and 7. Re-minimize the image, FILE and OPEN and open another one of the 9 images you saved to your desktop. Once open press CTRL-C to copy it. Re-maximize your gridded image and press CTRL-V to paste again..repeat this until you have all 9 images in all of the 9 blocks within the grid and it should look something like this.

STEP 9: But wait it's black behind all of your images. Click on the PROPERTIES OF CURRENT LAYER BUTTON encircled in RED. This will bring up it's properties. You can see a check box beside of transparency UN-CHECK this box and RE-CHECK it. It will automatically change black to be transparent versus white being transparent.

And it will look like this.

STEP 10: Go to FILE and SAVE AS and save in .PNG format. If your making sprites for games you always want to save in PNG format because png saves without no irregularities like artifacts. Also you save in PNG formant cause it can have Alpha Channel which is a way to make the white around all those images transparent for your game. If you load up a sprite sheet with no alpha channel your gonna see a white square around that apple. But with an alpha channel all you will see is the apple.

The next Tutorial will show you how to add alpha channel to the sprite sheet you just made. :)
